This morning, Salt Valley Tally, Utah’s digital media innovation contest sponsored by the Utah System of Higher Education, opened up their crowdvoting platform to the public. The goal of the competition is to spur creativity and innovation among the state’s growing digital media industry. In order to qualify, companies must be legally incorporated in Utah, have less than $1 million in annual sales, and be developing technology that is not yet commercially available. Over 30 unique projects have been approved for the competition- these include mobile and web applications, film, video games, 3D animation, special effects, and digital audio technologies.
According to Ryan Angus of Utah Valley University, the institution saw the “Launcht platform as the single best, most cost-effective and quickest option for setting up and running a statewide crowdvoting campaign.” With the Launcht Salt Valley Tally platform, Utah Valley University hopes to to register over 1,000 online voters, both in and out-of-state. $5,000 cash prizes will be awarded to the top 5 companies whose campaigns gain the most online votes in the next 30 days.
